If a practice reprocesses reusable medical devices onsite or offsite, it must have policies and procedures describing every aspect of instrument and equipment reprocessing, in accordance with the .

These are guided by:

• assessment of the probability of harm to a patient and the likely seriousness of the harm
• feasibility considerations
• instructions for use by manufacturers of reusable medical devices and manufacturers of reprocessing equipment.

Single-use items must not be reprocessed.
