In Australia, lung cancer is the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of cancer death excluding non-melanoma cancers.1 It is estimated that, in 2023, more than 14,700 people were diagnosed with lung cancer in Australia.1

On 2 May 2023, the Minister for Health and Aged Care, the Hon Mark Butler MP, announced Federal Government investment of $263.8 million from 2023 to 2024 to implement a National Lung Cancer Screening Program, for commencement by July 2025.
