While most people recover from disasters without long-term mental health sequelae, they still may benefit from some basic and timely support during or immediately after a disaster.

It is essential that those affected by emergencies and disaster receive appropriate services in a timely manner. It is equally important that special consideration is given to the mental health and wellbeing of those responding to an event.
