      1. Develop relationships with service providers and other health services

Module 1 – Prevention and preparedness | Develop relationships with service providers and other health services

In the event of an emergency, your team may need to communicate with other health services and relevant organisations, including:

  • local hospitals,
  • team members from nearby practices,
  • primary care facilities,
  • government health departments,
  • PHNs,
  • your state/territory’s ,
  • local emergency service brigades,
  • your local council,
  • your insurance company,
  • telephone and internet and utilities providers,
  • disaster recovery specialists, and
  • your local community services.

Consider the services available in your area that may be of help to you, or you to them, during an emergency or disaster. Don’t wait until an emergency takes place – contact these services now to find out how you may be of assistance to each other during an event.

Take action

  • Contact the services available in your area that may be of help to you, or you to them, during an emergency or disaster.
  • Take note of the services you have contacted and how you may be of assistance to each other in an emergency or disaster. Remember to record contact information for each service, noting specific contact names where possible.
  • Any finalised or official plans made with external services should be noted in your emergency response plan. An example of how you could present this information can be found below.
