Hepatitis C elimination in your practice: Testing and treatment

This interactive webinar will cover an introduction to hepatitis C management in primary care, including testing, treatment initiation, ongoing surveillance and monitoring, and a brief overview of hepatitis C case-finding concepts in primary care.
  • Webinar will be composed of 2 parts:
    • Part 1: Introduction to hepatitis C in primary care, including identifying when screening and testing for hepatitis C is indicated, interpreting test results and pre-treatment assessment requirements, and monitoring and follow-up post-treatment
    • Part 2: Introduction to hepatitis C case finding in your practice, to search patients and implement systems to recall and test.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify target populations for hepatitis C case finding in your practice.
  2. Interpret tests appropriately to diagnose chronic HCV infection.
  3. Describe a process to identify patients into your practice for hepatitis C testing and care.

Dr Sara Whitburn
Chair, RACGP Sexual Health Medicine Specific Interest Group and Medical Director, Sexual Health Victoria

Dr Sara Whitburn (she/her) is the Medical Director at Sexual Health Victoria and the Chair of the Sexual Health Special Interest Group of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She was awarded her RACGP fellowship in 2009. Sara has diplomas in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Family Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching. Sara completed a 6-month Academic GP registrar term and has worked in general practices and family planning clinics in the UK and Melbourne. She has specialised in Sexual and Reproductive Health since 2008 and is interested in genital health, menopause, and long-acting contraceptive provision and training in general practice.

Lisa Holden
Clinical Nurse Advisor, ASHM

Lisa Holden is a Clinical Nurse Advisor with ASHM. She is currently involved in both the Beyond the C and SEEK B Quality Improvement projects. Her primary role is to guide practices through the projects. Lisa was previously a CNC in hepatitis and a CNS in sexual health.

Dr David Baker
GP, East Sydney Doctors

is a GP and also a Director of East Sydney Doctors. He has a special interest in Sexual Health and HIV Medicine as well as Addiction Medicine and Hepatitis C. David has completed additional training at University of Sydney – the Diploma in Medicine (Sexual Health). David is actively involved in medical student training as a senior lecturer (adjunct) at the University of Notre Dame. He also works as a medical adviser to the Australasian Society of HIV Medicine and is a member of many local and national advisory committees in the areas of HIV and hepatitis.
